Celebrating our Bonds with Basse-Wavre

On Sunday 25 January, the Sint-Kwinten’s community welcomed Jacqueline and Emmanuele from Basse-Wavre. During the Sunday Eucharist, they presented our community with a beautiful statue of Our Lady of Peace and Concord.

The bond between Sint-Kwinten and Basse-Wavre dates back to 1653. In our church, various works of art commemorate this centuries-old friendship: the painting at the back depicting the first pilgrimage in 1653, the plague altar with the invocation “a peste, fame et bello, libera nos Maria Pacis” above the statue of Mary, and a procession banner on which two angels carry the reliquary of Basse-Wavre.

At the end of the celebration, Father Quentin blessed the new statue. We hope that this event will inspire many to take part in our annual pilgrimage on Saturday 2 May, following in the footsteps of the thousands who went before us.
