St. Martin’s Lantern Walk

On Saturday 8 November a group of young children and their parents gathered at Sint-Kwinten’s Church to learn about and celebrate the life and example of Saint Martin.

We started off at the back of the church, where with the help of a range of activities, the children learnt (or refreshed what they had learned last year!) about the life of Saint Martin. We then practised some songs before lighting our lanterns and heading off into the Begijnhof.

In spite of the various roadworks, we enjoyed a nice walk with a number of pauses to regroup and sing. As darkness fell, we ended the walk in Sint-Kwintenshuis, where the children were rewarded with hot chocolate and snacks.

Many thanks to all who took part – the children really enjoyed themselves! We hope that they will be inspired by Saint Martin’s example to follow God’s call and always share with those in need. A special thanks to Hilde for organising the lantern making workshop and the delicious refreshments!
