On 27 October, we celebrated our annual Feast of Sint-Kwinten. The children brought forward candles to the statue of Sint-Kwinten. Father Juan Carlos spoke about the importance of following Jesus. At the end of the celebration, those who wanted could venerate the relic of Sint-Kwinten.
In the Sint-Kwintenshuis, we enjoyed potluck dishes that many people had brought, but the most important thing was that we got to spend time together.
Who was Sint-Kwinten (Saint Quentin)?
Sint-Kwinten (Rome ? – Saint-Quentin, 287) was a son of senator Zeno of Rome. He converted to Christianity and went to Gaul as a missionary along with Lucianus and Maximianus of Beauvais, settling in Amiens. His mission was so successful that he was captured by prefect Rictius Varus, tortured, and taken to present-day Saint-Quentin, where he was finally beheaded; his body was secretly thrown into the marshes of the Somme.
